Wallingford, CT - December 18, 2008 – Consumers across the nation are reporting a new scam involving telephone calls from a New Canaan, CT, telephone number.
Complaints reveal households are receiving telephone calls from, in at least one case, a woman identifying herself as “Betty,” offering to “drastically reduce mortgage rates” or cut credit card debt by at least 50 percent.
Better Business Bureau is in no way involved in these telephone calls.
Caller ID identified the telephone number as (203) 652-4022 and coming from “Debt Free.”
While there are a number of listings for Debt Free across the country, BBB has yet to tie any of them to the telephone number provided.
Connecticut Better Business Bureau called the telephone number, but got a message encouraging the caller to “...press one now…” to be removed from the company’s call list.
Better Business Bureau cautions people who receive these calls not to give out any personal or financial information over the telephone to callers they do not know.
If anyone does receive a similar call, they are asked to get as much information as possible from the caller, don’t divulge any personal information and report it to Connecticut Better Business Bureau at 203-269-2700, or by e-mail at complaints@ct.bbb.org
